Welcome to North Carolina's headquarters for the
National Student/Parent Mock Election
We're gearing up to officially kickoff North Carolina's participation in the 2008 National Student/Parent Mock Election. In the meantime, here are a few quick facts on the program and how you can take part:
WHAT IS THE NATIONAL STUDENT/PARENT MOCK ELECTION (NSPME)?
The NSPME makes students and parents aware of the power of their ballot by actively involving them in a full-fledged campaign and national election. In 2004, the last presidential election year, over 4 million students, parents and teachers participated in all 50 states.
Along with conducting a simulated election on Oct. 30, 2008, the NSPME offers top-notch curricula to explain voting and civic participation. Since the project began in 1982, over 40 million people have participated.
The NSPME is being conducted in North Carolina by the N.C. Center for Voter Education, a Raleigh-based nonpartisan and nonprofit organization dedicated to improving North Carolina’s elections.
IS THERE A FEE ASSOCIATED WITH PARTICIPATION?There is no charge to participate in the National Student/Parent Mock Election, nor is there any charge for curriculum materials. The program is funded through the N.C. State Board of Elections, the Federal Help America Vote Act and private donations. Every North Carolina student and parent is invited to join.
